A number of stakeholders have been in contact regarding the upcoming Comms Connect conference and exhibition on 6-7 May at the LHEC, in relation to the current COVID-19 situation. The health and safety of our attendees is our top priority and we continue to actively monitor the situation as it develops in New Zealand and overseas, with particular reference to, and advice sought from, the New Zealand Government’s Ministry of Health relating to public events and gatherings.
Currently, the Ministry of Health does not propose altering arrangements for public events, but states that particular focus should be made to good hygiene practices, including regular hand washing, coughing/sneezing etiquette, the provision of hand sanitisers around venues, along with signage to remind attendees of all of the above. Additionally, if you feel unwell with any of the symptoms of COVID-19 (e.g. fever, cough, sore throat or shortness of breath), you should immediately isolate yourself and seek medical advice from your doctor or an emergency department. If you are cleared (i.e. you do not have COVID-19), then you should obtain written confirmation of this.
The venue has also been contacted for comment and their current position is also in line with the above advice from The Ministry of Health, with further information available at: www.health.govt.nz/our-work/diseases-and-conditions/covid-19-novel-coronavirus/covid-19-novel-coronavirus-information-specific-audiences/covid-19-advice-public-events-and-mass-gatherings. Given the rapid pace of change in relation to information known about the virus, it is recommended that you check The Ministry of Health information daily: www.health.govt.nz/our-work/diseases-and-conditions/covid-19-novel-coronavirus
We will also be providing regular updates. Any questions about this update or the conference should be directed to Paul Davis firstname.lastname@example.org .
