Technical Sales Manager – Telemetry
Sarosh Dubash has been with Schneider Electric Australia managing its Telemetry Solutions Offer with a focus on Trio Data Radio Solutions for the past 8 years. Based in Melbourne, he was originally part of Trio Datacom and has previously held positions at Tait Electronics and Navman GPS Wireless in New Zealand.
Starting his career 30 years ago in Mumbai, India, as an automation systems hardware designer and moving to roles in product management and business development internationally, Sarosh has developed a well-rounded skill set across various facets of industrial automation.

Exploiting smart technology features in IP-based data radios to significantly enhance the efficiency of SCADA comms
Australia and New Zealand have been early adopters of SCADA & Telemetry systems across a variety of industry segments. The most common among these are utilities for water and waste water, electricity and oil and gas. Primarily a SCADA telemetry system consists of a central master/HMI and multiple distributed assets typically containing an RTU and communications device to wirelessly connect the remote asset to the master.
Considering that terrestrial data-radios have been the ‘device of choice’ for these mission-critical applications, starting with simple analog radios to recent IP-based digital radios, it is interesting to note that the UHF medium itself – packaged as narrow 12.5 and 25 KHz channels – has not changed. These narrow RF channels place limitations on how much traffic can be put through the air and now gets burdened further with the nuances of multilayered IP protocols with their handshaking and security requirements.
Sarosh will uncover some clever techniques and algorithms employed in new-generation IP radios to effectively pass more ‘real payload’, when and where required and there achieve a dramatic improvement in throughput.
Some of these ideas are:
- Robust Header Compression
- Data Stream Prioritisation/QoS
- Network Address Translation and Layer 3 Radio Repeating
- Network-wide broadcasts and updates
This presentation I intend to conclude with quantifiable benefits of the above in a SCADA application.
