It has been a commonly accepted view that you cannot do DMR Tier III on sites that do not have mains power due to the load of the control channel. With the rapid growth of the solar industry and a corresponding drop in the price of solar panels this view is no longer valid. Our company decided that the power supply issues were less onerous than the compromises made in adopting wide area DMR Tier II networks as opposed to DMR Tier III network.
This presentation covers our experience in providing power supplies for DMR Tier III radio sites with a nominal continuous design baseload of 200 watts.
