Dr. Simon Hoermann represents a team of researchers from the Human Interface Technology Lab New Zealand (HIT Lab NZ) based at the University of Canterbury (Christchurch). The team, including Dr. Rory Clifford and Prof. Rob Lindeman are working on various VR simulator systems. Before joining the HIT Lab NZ in 2017, Dr. Hoermann was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Positive Computing Lab (University of Sydney) as well as at the Human-Computer Interaction Research Group at the University of Otago, where he also received his PhD. Since 2021, Dr. Hoermann has been working with PhD candidate, Steven Wheeler, who joined the HIT Lab team working on a new VR firefighter training simulator. The team, together with our international collaborators, has recently received the best poster award for their research endeavors to include real-world objects in virtual reality simulations.
